On December 5, the Council (Member States) issued an internal document on the ePrivacy Regulation as it prepares for the trilogue negotiations with the Parliament and the Commission over the final text of the regulation. The IAPP has just published a summary of the Council document: https://iapp.org/news/a/council-of-the-eu-weighs-in-on-eprivacy-processing.
The really interesting time will start when the Council has made finalized its position, and the Council, the Parliament, and the Commission begin negotiations over the final text. With the GDPR, this was largely done in secret, with very few leaks. In terms of timeline, we are now hearing that the whole process will likely take significantly more time to complete.
